WELCOME TO 5th GRADE and JR. HIGH MATH

School Year 2011 - 2012

Dear 5th Grade & Junior High Students and Parents,

Welcome to a new year in mathematics!  This is going to be a special year for both you and me.  Also, I would like to welcome 5th Graders and their parents as of the start of Trimester 2.   I would like to take this time to give a brief explanation of my grading policy and provide a list of necessary supplies.

Grading Policy: Can be found on the tab above

List of Supplies: Can be found on the tab above

Mathematics Content Standards: Can be found on the "More" tab above

The 5th graders will be using the Scott-Foresman California Mathematics series for 5th grade and the 6th graders will be using the Scott-Foresman California Mathematics series for 6th grade.  The 7th graders will be using the Prentice-Hall Pre-Algebra, California Edition series and the 8th graders will be using the Prentice-Hall Algebra I, California Edition series.  These textbooks are aligned with the California State Math Standards and should present challenging mathematical opportunities for everyone that will provide strong foundational skills, and therefore prepare them for high school level Algebra and Geometry.

I offer Math lab weekly as an opportunity for students demonstrating difficulty at particular times to come into the St. John Eudes classroom (6th Grade Homeroom) during lunch time.  Math Lab has been assigned to 8th grade on Mondays, 7th grade on Tuesdays, and 6th grade on Thursdays.  5th graders are welcome to come on Tuesdays, & Thursdays during their lunch times.  The school also has an after-school tutoring program that is free of charge, for students that are struggling.  Tutoring will be provided to those students who are most at-risk, first.

I am looking forward to a great year with the 5th Graders and Junior High students.  If any questions should ever arise, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail at lstrom@stjohneudes.org or by leaving a message in the school office.  Thank you, in advance, for your continued support.

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Strom
